In a shocking incident, a 35-year old man raped an 8-year-old girl. According to Women Police Station, Ukhrul District, the parents of the victim on November 15, 2022 had lodged a complaint at the Women Police Station, Ukhrul. Based on the complaint report, the victim had revealed that she was repeatedly raped by the accused person in the month of October 2022.
The accused had allegedly threatened the minor girl that he would kill her if she told anyone about the incident. Out of fear, she had not disclosed the horrendous act to any of the family members. However, on November 13, 2022, the accused person attempted sexual assault on the victim and her younger sister. But the children managed to escape from the place of the incident to their neighbour’s house. There, the victim revealed about the past incidents.
On receiving the report, Ukhrul District Police party led by SI Marchang W conducted a brief man-hunt for the accused person and he was subsequently arrested from Wino Bazaar area of Ukhrul.
“The accused was produced on Wednesday before the CJM Ukhrul and he has been remanded to police custody till November 22, 2022. He will be produced again before the CJM Ukhrul on November 22, for judicial custody” informed SI Marchang W.
In this regard, W/SI Meena Vashum, OC of Women PS, Ukhrul have registered a case under FIR No. 5(11)2022 W-PS u/s 6 POCSO Act and 506 IPC for further investigation.
The Greenland Organisations of Shimva, Women, Youth, Building-Committee and Joint Committee have strongly condemned the heinous crime committed by the man. They have demanded that justice be delivered at the earliest and have declared to stand and support the victim and her family and believe that the law will take its own course of action. The condemnation letter was jointly signed by Chairman of Shimva Long, Chairperson of Shanao Long, Convenor of Building Commitee, Convenor of Joint Committee and Vice Chairman of Youth Organisation.
