The man behind a gruesome video of a helpless dog being tied to a bike and dragged to death has been arrested on Sunday, within a few hours of the video getting viral. He was identified as Motilal Thiyam (47) of Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai, Imphal East.
Motilal dragged the dog for nearly 2 km from Lairikyengbam area to Nagaram, near Hyundai showroom, Imphal. The road was painted with the dog’s blood. Around 2 pm we received information about the viral video, Manipur Dog Lovers Club (MDLC) along with the joint coordination committee on Wildlife Biodiversity (Yening Animal Foundation) contacted Lamphel Police Station and tracked down the culprits. It was unfortunate that we could not save the poor animal and it was already turned to “meat and bones” by three people. The dog belonged to Motilal’s relative. It was sold for Rs 6000 to his friends.
The incident has shocked us all and we are sad that such incidents keep happening despite how educated we all are. MDLC will continue our fight to end animal cruelty and believe that wrongdoers will face their Karma.
