Indigenous People’s Association of Kangleipak (IPAK), Manipur urged the Manipur Government to take more stringent measures to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus amidst the raging second wave of the pandemic in India in general and Manipur in particular. IPAK also appealed to the public to maintain SOP in order to fight the dreaded virus.
IPAK, in a release on Saturday contended that the reason for the mayhem of the second wave is due to the opening of market in the interest of few wealthy people, states and union government engaging in competing for higher GDP, Election Commission of India holding elections in several states without proper SOP, opening of private institutions in order to collect fees, etc. It is unfortunate that the lives of the people were taken for granted, it added.
IPAK also urged the state government to provide relief to those affected by the curfew and lockdown. Frontline workers like doctors, nurses and medical staff should be encouraged and make sure that there are no shortages in the hospitals and health Institutes, it added.
Accusing the JNIMS authority of incompetency about the recent cremation of a COVID body without the knowledge of the family, IPAK said that the incident was unfortunate. The JNIMS authority should conduct an enquiry about the incident and take actions so that such incidents do not occur in the future. Police should take a suo moto case and investigate it, IPAK demanded.
IPAK further stated that the recent death of a youth from Maram after JNIMS, RIMS, Shija Hospital, Raj Medicity, etc allegedly denied admission as he was COVID positive was heart wrenching and should not happen to anyone again. Those responsible should be punished by the government, IPAK demanded and urged medical professionals to adhere to professional ethics.
