Condolences pour in as Phanjoubam Sakhi Leima, popularly known as Ima Sakhi, passed away on Sunday due to an illness at her home near Wangkhei Meihoubam Lampak, Imphal. She was 85 years old.
Many paid floral tributes to the body of Ima Sakhi before the last rites were performed. Former United National Liberation Front chief RK Meghen also came to pay his respect to the departed.
Condoling the demise, RK Meghen maintained that it was an irreparable loss to the society and state as a whole. However, he said that more Imas will come up to follow in the ideals of Ima Sakhi.

Ima Sakhi was also the president of Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL).
In a condolence message, Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) remembered the fearlessness and sacrifice of the women leader for the betterment of the society. Leading the charge on June 18, 2001 to leading protests against the excesses by Indian armed forces under the garb of AFSPA, Ima Sakhi was relentless, CADA said.
As a leader of the Meira Paibi movement, she stood against the abuse of alcohol and other illicit substances, it added.
