Hit & Run Case: Petrol pumps in Manipur to remain shut on January 24

The Manipur Petroleum Retail Outlet Dealer Association said that it has been resolved that in case appropriate compensation is not given to the affected drivers and for the damaged tankers by the Government of Manipur, within a stipulated time i.e. January 31, 2022, the members may undertake further course of action.

The Manipur Petroleum Retail Outlet Dealer Association on Sunday announced that all the petrol pumps in Manipur will remain closed on Monday, in support of the demands of the affected drivers of the January 21 incident at Keithelmanbi (Kangpokpi district) for compensation and as a mark of solidarity.

On January 21, the escorted petroleum product tankers were damaged at Keithelmanbi (Kangpokpi district) and some drivers were also injured physically by the bandh supporters due to security lapses on the national highway, stated a joint release by the IOCL, HPCL, BPCL, and Nayara Energy.

The sudden bandh was called in the wake of the hit and run case on January 19, in which an individual had died.

“A telephonic meeting was held today 23/01/2022 of the office bearers of the association of HPCL, BPCL, IOCL and Nayara Energy Ltd. And it resolved that all the petrol pumps of IOCL, HPCL, BPCL and Nayara Energy shall remain closed on Monday i e. 24th January 2022, in support of the demands of the affected drivers for compensation and as a mark of solidarity,” it added.

It was resolved that a departmental enquiry should be initiated by the Government of Manipur to prove the security lapses on that day and take action against the concerned officials involved at the earliest. It was also resolved that an appeal should be made to the Government of Manipur to provide all the norms and rules of a proper highway on NH 2 in Manipur.

The further said that it has been resolved that in case appropriate compensation is not given to the affected drivers and for the damaged tankers by the Government of Manipur, within a stipulated time i.e. January 31, 2022, the members may undertake further course of action.

Further, all the members of the association condemned the unfortunate incident and appealed to the Government Manipur to make serious efforts so that such incidents do not occur in the future and for the safety of the drivers and the petroleum product tankers.
