Even as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) National spokesperson and media coordinator for North East Region (NER), Mathew Antony, who is stationed in the state of Nagaland for the last three days where the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) is taking its best to cater his presence felt by taking him in meeting people and party supporters in some of the districts, a blow to the Congress in the state came when Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday claimed that the Congress would be “extinct” by 2026 which awaits a bleak future for Rahul Gandhi.
According to NE Now News, Himanta said that supporting the Congress party equates to supporting Rahul Gandhi while supporting the BJP means supporting Narendra Modi, and that those who admire Modi and envision India as a global leader would cast their votes for the BJP in the ensuing Lok Sabha election.
He said that conversely, those who put their faith in Rahul Gandhi also acknowledge the “dim prospects” ahead by stating that even Rahul Gandhi’s own future appears bleak, and let alone that of his followers.
Also adding that he has observed numerous Congress leaders defecting to the BJP and AGP, Himanta said he firmly believed that by 2026, the Congress party would no longer hold sway in Assam and predicted that Assam Congress president, Bhupen Kumar Borah would join the BJP in the early part of 2025.
Meanwhile, when contacted to know about the statement made by Assam’s chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, NPCC’s communication department chairperson, Yanger Longkumer, articulated that not all Congress party leaders in Assam are “party hopping” turncoats like the former.
He maintained that “Himanta Biswa Sarma” will come and go, but the Congress party in Assam and the entire nation, deeply rooted in the founding ideas of our country would continue to stand tall and thrive in the service of the people of India.
