The police have alleged that the two are working under the command of one Shakhen who is said to be the proscribed UNLF’s publicity director reported to be presently staying in Myanmar. The two have been sent to seven-day police remand.

Former all Manipur working journalist union (AMWJU) president Bijoy Kakchingtabam (54) and AMWJU standing committee member Leimapokpam Shanjitkumar Singh (41) were arrested on Friday when they were trying to allegedly recruit new cadres for the proscribed UNLF from Bishnupur area and send them to Myanmar, police said.
According to the police, Bijoy Kakchingtabam (54) S/o (L) K. Achouba Sharma of Khongman west, Imphal East, District and one Leimapokpam Shanjitkumar Singh(41) S/o (L) L. Godadhor Singh of Singjamei Oinam Thingel, Imphal West District were arrested from Bishnupur bazar near Ngaikhong crossing along Tiddim Road. The two were working under command of one Shakhen, UNLF’s publicity director of the organization presently staying in Myanmar, police alleged.
The police further said the two have revealed that they came to Bishnupur under the telephonic (Whatsapp) instruction of Shakhen to recruit new cadres from the Bishnupur area and to send them to Myanmar. They were arrested based on an input received from Sister Agency and NIA, teams of CDO BPR under the command of Y. Shaktishen Singh, OC-CDO/BPR under the supervision of Roni Mayengbam, MPS Addl. SP (Ops) Bishnupur and under the overall guidance of the Bishnupur SP, police added.
Three mobile phones (two MI & one Samsung) and one Verna Car black in colour bearing regd. No. MNO6LA7696 were seized from them, the police said. The arrested persons along with the seized article are handed over to BPR PS for taking further necessary legal action, they added. Meanwhile, the arrested persons were sent to seven-day police remand.
