Since the demands of the students are not fulfilled, the administration block, construction works, and the recruitment process will be banned from Tuesday, said DM College of Arts Students’ Union debate and extension secretary Suraj Takhelmayum.

Students of Dhanamanjuri College of Arts on Monday barged and halted the academic council meeting being held at the Centenary Hall of the DM College of Science.
The students have been demanding the DMU authority to start online classes and find a solution to the pending scholarship of the students.
The DMU vice-chancellor later met with the agitating students. About the scholarship, the VC expressed that they are not responsible for it as the mistake is from the UGC side. The VC, although assured to start the online classes, said DM College of Arts Students’ Union debate and extension secretary Suraj Takhelmayum.
Since the demands of the students are not fulfilled, Suraj said that from Tuesday the administration block, construction works and the recruitment process will be banned.
Suraj asserted that holding an academic council meeting without addressing the issue of holding classes is absurd and meaningless.
He said that the students have been demanding the authority of certain “charter of demands”. When other universities of the country have been conducting online classes and even holding exams, no such arrangements have been made for the students of colleges under DMU to date, he lamented. He demanded the DMU authority and the teachers to chalk out a solution and start the online classes at the earliest.
Suraj also said that many students of DMU are not getting the University Grant Commission (UGC) sponsored ISHAN UDAY scholarship given especially for the Northeastern students. The message “The application is pending for revalidation with State nodal officer” shown for these students and the sad part is that there seems to be no-one in the state to fix the issue, he added.
The students and the union have met with the state nodal officer regarding the matter but to no avail to date. Stating that there is apprehension amongst the students that they might miss out on their scholarships, Suraj said that the authority seems to be inviting the students for intense agitation.
He further said that another major concern of the students is the validity of the certificates of the PG and UG students of DMU.
