Amidst widespread condemnation and outcry for stringent punishment for the culprits sexually assaulting a girl believed to be from Northeast in a viral video, the Dhaka Police in Bangladesh has claimed that the girl in the video is from Dhaka and that one of the molesters is from Dhaka named Hriday Babu.
This was tweeted by one Pranjal Sarma who is a journalist at News18 Assam-NE. Earlier on Thursday, the Assam Police announced a reward for any information on the five culprits. Police also shared the pictures of those culprits seen in the video.
Meanwhile, based on a video clip, wherein one woman was subjected to physical abuse and torture by a group of people, five culprits including a woman, visible in the clip were immediately traced and secured by Bengaluru City Police.
On the basis of the contents in the video clip and facts as disclosed during preliminary interrogation of the secured persons, a case of rape, assault and under other relevant provisions of law, has been registered against the accused in Ramamurthy Nagar Police Station, said a press release issued by Bengauru City Police.
Since as revealed, at present the victim woman is away in a neighbouring state, a police team has been dispatched to trace her, so that she could join the investigation, it said.
As per the information revealed so far, all of them are part of same group and believed to be from Bangladesh. “Due to financial differences, culprits brutalized the victim, who is also said to be a Bangladeshi, brought to India for human trafficking,” said the police.
Investigation is being carried out in full earnestness, under the close supervision of senior officers.
In the video, a group of four men and a woman is seen slapping, stripping, kicking and even stepping on the face and private parts of the victim girl.
The Assam Police had taken to Twitter to announce rewards and shared the images of five culprits, who were seen brutally torturing the young girl in the viral video.
“Though the time or place of this incident is not clear from the viral video, we are reaching out to proactively locate the culprits,” said the Assam Police.
“Anyone with information regarding this crime or the criminals may please contact us. They will be rewarded handsomely. We must stand together to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice,” Assam police tweeted.
Earlier, the viral video was circulated, saying it is related to the recent incident that happened in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur, where a 25-year-old Naga woman allegedly committed suicide. The sister of the deceased and the police have verified the viral video, and confirmed that the video is not of the Naga woman in Jodhpur, informed the Additional Director General of Police, Delhi Police and Special Commissioner, Robin Hibu IPS.
“We are trying to identify the girl in the viral video, also the perpetrators for further action,” Hibu said.
Union minister Kiren Rijiju also confirmed that the video is not related to the Jodhpur suicide case.
“However, there must be all out efforts by all State Police to catch the devils,” he tweeted.
TIPRA leader Pradyot Manikya also tweeted expressing his anguish over the video.
“Feel sick in my gut after seeing what they did to the girl,” he tweeted.
In the video, a group that also consisted of a woman is seen slapping, kicking and even stamping on the victim’s face and private parts. The group kept assaulting and torturing the victim even she cried for help. They stripped her naked and continued the abuse. As the video went viral, demand for justice began to grow.
