Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Bishnupur Forest Division Rebika Soibam Chanu has issued show-cause notice to 10 chiefs of villages located inside Tairenpokpi-Tamenglong protected forest area.
As per the notice signed by the DFO and issued on May 18, 2022, the chiefs have been directed to submit relevant documents in support of their claims for ownership of the respective villages. The chiefs had been given a week’s time to respond from the date of issue of the notification.
The notice further warned that if the chiefs failed to produce relevant documents, the forest division will record the failure as “does not possess any valid document” and the chiefs would be termed as encroachers inside the protected forest area.
The 10 villages are 1. Kotlen Village, 2. S Laijang Village, 3. Longa Koireng (plan) village, 4. Pholjang Village, 5. Thanglongbung Village, 6. Bijang Village, 7. Longjang Village, 8. Namthanjang Village, 9. Aithu Village and 10, Lhongchin Village
