Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council on Thursday slammed the Manipur government for mismanagement of COVID-19 pandemic in the state and demanded to constitute a committee to look into the rising number of deaths due to the disease on war-footing. It is unfortunate that the government is silent on such crucial matters, it added.
CPI, MSC organised a meeting regarding the prevailing situation of COVID-19 pandemic in the state. After the meeting, CPI, MSC assistant secretary M Joykumar asserted that it is time to find out the reason for the rising number of deaths in the state due to COVID-19.
He said that there are signs of slowing down the distribution of rice under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) during such devastating times. The chief minister should make sure that every beneficiary gets 5 Kg of rice till November, 2021 as decided by the Union government.
Joykumar also assured the party’s assistance in getting everyone inoculated with COVID vaccine and ramping up testing.
He termed the recent letter by the superintendent of police of CID (CB) to the SPs of all the districts of the state regarding slaughtering and transportation of animals in view of Bakrid as communal. He demanded that the state government should revoke it at the earliest, while appealing to the Meetei-Pangal community to maintain SOPs while celebrating the holy day.
CPI, national executive member Dr M Nara, CPI, MSC secretary L Sotinkumar, assistant secretary Rk Amusana, and spokesperson Th Meghachandra also attended the meeting.
