COVID-19: Active cases in Manipur cross 100

In the last seven days, 1.1 lakh fresh cases have been reported at an average in India.

COVID-19 active cases in Manipur surged to 101 on Saturday as the second wave made way to the state. Until a couple of weeks ago, Manipur had reached single digit active cases, with single digit fresh cases. 

New cases have been reported at an alarming rate in some states of the country in recent days. India reported more than 1.4 lakh new cases on Friday, highest one day cases since the beginning of the pandemic. In the last seven days, 1.1 lakh fresh cases have been reported at an average. 

Most of the new cases in Manipur have been detected amongst the passengers coming by air or by land. COVID testing has been made mandatory at the Imphal airport, Jiribam and Mao gate. 

As per the COVID-19 Common Control Room, Government of Manipur, 10 individuals were tested positive in the last 24 hours. There has been no reported death in the state. 

Air passengers who travelled to the State on:

(i) April 8 by Air India flight A1-889 in rows 6-12, 

(ii) April 9 by indigo flight 6E-2251 in rows 1-7 

(iii) April 9 by indigo flight 6E-6181 in rows 1-7

have been instructed to inform the Common COVID Control Room 18003453818 or respective District Surveillance Officers (DSO) immediately. 

So far 92472 individuals of the state have been vaccinated, of which 31931 are health care workers. 

The cumulative number of positive cases in the state is 29,486 (General Population – 26,033 and Central Security Personnel 3,453). 375 lives have been claimed by the deadly virus so far. 

Meanwhile, the recently reopened school for Class VI-VIII have been shut down “in view of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic and to avoid any kind of unwanted consequences likely to occur in the near future”. According to an order issued by the Directorate of Education (S), Government of Manipur on Friday, the physical classes for Class-IX to XII is going to continue by strictly observing the approved SoP/ Guidelines framed by the state government. The classes for students of Class-V and below will be through online mode only, it added.
