COCOMI rally says no combing operations before ending armed face-off with Narco Terrorists

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) organized a mass rally in Imphal on Friday advocating for the protection of Manipur, the termination of the Suspension of Operations pact with Kuki-Zo terrorists, and the immediate implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur.

The rally saw the participation of over one lakh people, including students and womenfolk, belonging to indigenous Meitei, Naga, and Meitei-Pangal communities of Manipur. It commenced at THAU Ground in Thangmeiband and culminated at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium passing through Khuyathong, Nagamapal, BT Road and North AOC.

The rally pressed for the eight-point charter of demands which includes calls to stop India’s attempt to exterminate indigenous communities of Manipur, to protest divide and rule policy of India, Root out Narco-terrorism, and to expel and deport Narco terrorist infiltrators from outside the country. They also demanded abrogation of Suspension of Operations with narco-terrorists, to expedite process of implementing NRC, to stop disarming or recovering arms before the end of violent conflict and a halt to combing operations before ending armed faceoff with Narco-terrorists.

The streets echoed with chants of “Long live Manipur” and “We want peace,” as people from all walks of life joined hands in a powerful statement of solidarity.

Notably, the rally saw the participation of prominent political figures, including MLA Nishikanta Sapam from Keishamthong AC and MLA Thangjam Arun from Wangkhei AC, among other CSO leaders of Manipur.

In response to the rally, many schools and colleges were closed and most of the markets and establishments in Imphal area remained shut-down showing solidarity to the rally.

Besides, a scheduled government program, which was supposed to be attended by the Chief Minister of Manipur, was also postponed. Heavy security bandobast was put in place with the deployment of both the state and central security personnel along the route to keep a strict vigil on any kind of disturbance to law and order and public order.

Their presence and others such as the Manipur Red Cross Society helped maintain order and facilitated the peaceful conduct of the rally.
