Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Pradesh chief spokesperson Ch Bijoy on Monday resigned from his post and announced himself as an intending candidate in the ensuing state general election slated to be held in early 2022.
In a video message, Bijoy maintained that that he has no animosity against the party leaders and he resigned from the post in an erstwhile tradition of the BJP party of resigning from their party posts six months prior to election, though it is not mentioned in the party’s constitution. He intends to be a BJP candidate from Uripok assembly constituency.
There are limited party posts, but unlimited aspirants, he said. He also claimed that when BJP national leaders visited the state, many approached them for party posts and party tickets. Stressing on the need to rectify such “old model” approach, he claimed that he resigned in order to revive the old tradition.
By thinking only about profit when taking up developmental work, the people suffer, he said, adding that developing an assembly constituency through one’s pocket will never be enough. Funds from the union government need to be utilised judiciously, he added.
Stating that the BJP party was not well accepted by the people in the past, he said that the party had to approach the candidates for the tickets. But ever since the party came to power in Delhi and in the state, the number of intending candidates approaching the party for ticket has increased, he said.
Stating that many intending candidates are vying for the BJP ticket for Uripok assembly constituency and some are declaring that they will get the ticket, Bijoy exuded confidence that being in the party for around 20 years he will surely get the ticket.
