All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary in charge of Nagaland Christopher Tilak kick-started a statewide inter district tour programme from Peren district on Tuesday. He was accompanied by the lone member of parliament from Nagaland S Supongmeren Jamir, NPCC working president Khriedi Theunuo, and host of party leaders.

Addressing the gathering, Tilak stated that his visit was aimed at strengthening the party while stressing on the importance of understanding Nagaland’s political situation.

Stating that while the Congress party has no MLA in the state, he noted that electing a Member of Parliament was a major achievement and added that the ruling government has a Chief Minister, but the Opposition has a Member of Lok Sabha, highlighting Congress’ growing presence in the state despite the challenges that it faces.

Speaking about the 2028 elections, Tilak emphasized the need for a clear strategy and active involvement of youth, women, and other stakeholders to build a strong electoral campaign.

He warned that BJP’s policies pose a threat to democracy and tribal rights and also raised concern about political instability in the Northeast and increasing unemployment, which is forcing many youths to migrate for jobs.

Addressing the same event at Crave Inn Hotel, Jalukie, Peren, S Supongmeren Jamir, who is also the PCC president, remarked that the Congress should aim to form the government in Nagaland in 2028. Both DCC Peren and its two subordinate ACCCs should start working at the grassroots level to secure an MLA from their region, he said.

He further emphasized the need for party reorganization if necessary, focusing on the larger interest of the party. He said that a well-planned strategy would determine Congress’ success in the upcoming elections.

Speaking at the well-attended programme at Jalukie Town, and later at Congress Bhavan, Dimapur, same afternoon in Dimapur Congress Bhavan, Khriedi Theunuo, Working President of NPCC, highlighted the importance of unity, stating that unity is strength.

He reaffirmed the Congress’ commitment to secularism and its founding inclusive principles and acknowledged the overwhelming “bipartisan support” of the electorate of Nagaland in the last general elections and emphasized that Nagas have come together as a united force.

He added that the Lok Sabha election results reflect the people’s ardent desire for change and that Congress remains strong due to its dedication to the Constitution and the democratic ideals enshrined in it.

In the programme held at Congress Bhavan, Dimapur, retired additional director, Rural Development, Nagaland, formally joined the congress party.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Nagaland Congress leader, Rajesh Kumar Sethi, National Coordinator, AICC minority department and in-charge, Manipur, has condemned the shameful and baseless allegations made by Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, against Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Shri Gaurav Gogoi.

He said it was nothing but a desperate and frustrated attempt to defame a leader who has earned the trust and love of the people of Assam and nation as a whole.

Sethi in the statement said the BJP, rattled by its declining influence in Assam, has stooped to the lowest levels of political discourse.

After being humbled in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections—where the Congress won key seats including Jorhat, Dhubri, and Nowgong—Himanta Biswa Sarma has resorted to spreading outright lies. The landslide victory of Shri Gaurav Gogoi in Jorhat with a margin of 1,44,393 votes was a direct rejection of the BJP’s divisive politics and personal vendetta.
