MLA Kh Joykishan of Thangmeiband AC on Wednesday requested the state government to let him take care of supplying food to the patients at the COVID Care Centre, RD Wing, which is located under his AC. If the government permits, it can be started from May 7, he added.
MLA Joykishan was talking to media persons at a vaccination programme held at Ibudhou Naotingkhong Community hall on Wednesday.
He pointed out that the Manipur Government on Tuesday imposed a complete ban on movement of all vehicles (including during 6 am to 10 am) in areas under IMC and Greater Imphal exception — goods vehicles, oxygen supply related vehicles, LPG and oil tankers and vehicles of other essential services like Power supply, water supply, waste/garbage clearance, Public Distribution System, medical/covid services and vehicles of personnel of departments/ organisations permitted to be functional including Public Distribution System.
But the patients at the COVID Care Centres apart including JNIMS and RIMS have been told to arrange for their own foods during their stay, he said. Now the ban on vehicle movement has become an obstacle as the family members could not deliver food and some families are under containment zones, he added.
In view of this development, the MLA said that he is prepared to provide breakfast, lunch, evening snacks, and dinner to the inmates at RD Wing from May 7.
Maintaining that it is not the time for blame-game, MLA Joykishan urged the ministers, MLAs from both the ruling and opposition to fight the pandemic unitedly. The virus doesn’t discriminate between opposition and ruling, he added.
Let the government work for Oxygen, medication, staff, etc, he said and urged the ministers and MLAs to take the responsibility of providing food to the COVID Care Centres.
Stating that there are many powerful CSOs of different communities in the state, he opined that if they work unitedly the virus can be defeated easily. He also urged the political parties and those intending to fight the upcoming election to work for the same.
