At least 11 armed militants were killed in an encounter with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in Manipur’s Jiribam district on Monday, November 11.
The gunfight erupted after the militants reportedly attacked a CRPF camp at Jakuradhor Karong in Borobekra subdivision, Jiribam district, around 3:45 pm. During the clash, two CRPF personnel sustained injuries, with one reported to be in critical condition. He has since been airlifted to a hospital for treatment, according to officials.
Meanwhile, militants set fire to several shops in the Borobekra subdivision. Around 2:30 pm, armed militants fired multiple rounds toward Borobekra police station before advancing toward Jakuradhor Karong, where they engaged in acts of arson, according to a police official.
The CRPF, alongside other security agencies, had been conducting operations in the region following reports of militant activity, the officer added. Security measures have since been intensified throughout the district to prevent further violence, with authorities closely monitoring the situation.
The identities of the deceased militants have not yet been confirmed, and investigations are ongoing to gather further information, the officer stated. Among the seized items from the militants were three SLRs, three AK-47 rifles, and one RPG.
Following the incident, the District Magistrate of Jiribam imposed a curfew in the district until further notice, citing the risk of widespread disturbances to peace, public safety, and property due to ongoing unlawful activities.
In a separate incident on Monday morning in Imphal East district, a farmer was injured by gunfire from militants stationed on a nearby hilltop. According to police, the attack disrupted paddy harvesting, as many farmers in peripheral valley areas are now hesitant to work in the fields. The firing reportedly occurred at approximately 9:20 am, targeting farmers working in Yaingangpokpi Shantikhongban area in Imphal East district, resulting in pellet injuries to the farmer’s hand.
