Six student organisations have demanded Education Minister Thounaojam Basantakumar and Commissioner of (HTE), Gyan Prakash to resign for failing to convert Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) into a full-fledged university since its recognition as a State University under the Dhanamanjuri University Act, 2017.
Speaking to media at Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA) office on Monday, KSA President, Sukham Bidyananda asserted that the negligence of the State government has hindered DMU from being recognized as a full-fledged university. The failure to send bonafide list of teaching and non-teaching staff to University Grants Commission (UGC) has impeded the recognition, he added.
Bidyananda also maintained that the delay in sending the report has held back the university from receiving UGC’s 12(B) status. He pointed out that the authority’s blunder on delaying the reports has affected the Junior Research fellows and other research scholars from gaining access to their scholarships and other relevant stipends.
Noting that authorities concerned had still not appointed a regular registrar, finance officer and controller of examination Bidyananda added that the results of 88 teaching posts has been withheld till date without providing any valid reason. He highlighted that the university’s registrar had submitted an application to the Higher and Technical Commissioner on June 11, 2022 to receive approval for declaring the results of non-teaching posts. But the application never received a response, he added. As such, he alleged if a devilish ploy was being propped up behind closed doors.

Regarding the bifurcation order, Bidyananda stated that the bifurcation order is pointless unless the university’s required internal arrangement is made. He said “untill the university corrects the loopholes staff requirements and overall administration, implementing the bifurcation will prove a mammoth task”.

He warned that students will resort intense agitation starting Tuesday if authorities concerned fail to resolve the impending issues immediately. Representatives of 6 student organisations namely, AMSU, DESAM, KSA, SUK, MSF and AIIMS were present during the press meet.
