A 40-year-old man was arrested by Ukhrul Police on receiving complaints of sexual assault on two minor girls on Sunday.
According to police, SI Vashum Meena, Officer In-charge of Women Police Station, Ukhrul, lodged two separate cases (1) FIR No. 4(9)2021 W-PS/Ukhrul u/s 448 IPC & 8 POCSO Act, 2012, and (2) FIR No. 5(9)2021 W-PS/Ukhrul u/s 366-A IPC & 8 POCSO Act, 2012 based on two separate reports of complaint received on September 30, 2021, of sexual assault perpetrated against two minor children on September 28, 2021 by a 40-year-old man.
SI Vashum Meena then immediately co-ordinated with Ukhrul Police Station to execute the arrest of the accused person. SI Marchang W of Ukhrul Police Station swung into action and raided at all possible places, including the house of the accused on the intervening night of September 30, 2021 and October 1, 2021. However, the accused could not be arrested and remained at large.
Based on reliable inputs, SI Marchang W, under the supervision of SP Ukhrul, Saujanya Singh, conducted extensive frisking and checking on NH-202 (Ukhrul- Jessami Road) on October 1, 2021. During the checking, the alleged accused was found travelling in an Alto towards Ukhrul. After proper verification, he was arrested and brought to Ukhrul Police Station.
From the FIR reports lodged at Women Police Station, Ukhrul, it is learnt that the alleged accused committed sexual assault against a minor child while she was alone in her room attending online class on September 28, 2021. On the same day (evening), the accused again committed the same nature of offence against another child. So, their parents lodged separate FIRs at Women Police Station, Ukhrul. The arrested accused is now in police custody.
