A 24-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting Lamsang Assembly Constituency MLA Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh, his wife and their daughter at the latter’s residence at Salam Maning Leikai. The accused was identified as Asem Nicholson alias Naoba Singh s/o A. Jugindro Singh of Luker Mayai Leikai under Patsoi police station, a police source said.
According to police, Nicholson was detained on February 16 after the MLA’s son Sorokhaibam Jayananda Singh (28) lodged a written report at Patsoi PS stating that on the same day at about 07.10 pm, an unknown person entered his residence and started assaulting every person he met without any reason.
Jayananda alleged in his complaint Nicholson even hit MLA Rajen’s daughter Sorokhaibam Bandana Devi (25 yrs) and MLA;s wife Sorokhaibam (0) Shyama Devi (60 yrs). As a result, they were physically injured.
Police said during the course of the investigation, Jayananda’s detailed statement is recorded u/s 161 Cr.P.C. One Mobile POCO handset, blue in colour, one Airtel Sim and one JIO Sim were seized from the accused. Police also examined some eyewitnesses from the spot. The accused person was produced at RIMS Hospital for medical treatment and taken into custody.
Police further said that during the further course of the investigation, Nicholson was interrogated. However, he did not reveal the mastermind who was behind that crime, they added.
Moreover, CDR/SDR of the mobile phone used by the accused has also been sent to SP, IE (Nodal Officer) to ascertain the mastermind person and the report is still awaited, police said.
Blood and urine samples of the accused were sent to FSL, Pangei for examination and to ascertain which drugs the accused person had used while committing the crime and the report is also still awaited, police added.
Police claimed that the accused person intentionally went inside the house of the MLA, Lamsang AC by trespassing and assaulted the family members of MLA including the wife of MLA which outraged her modesty too.
